Day 1
– Depart Paris and London for our transfer to Normandy. Welcome party including a tour briefing. Dinner and overnight accommodation in Normandy.
Day 2 – Breakfast. We visit Saint Mere Eglise and its famed 13th century church with its Airborne stained glass windows. The Airborne museum followed by lunch on your own. This afternoon we see the La Fiere bridgehead and its "Iron Mike" U.S. Airborne statue. We then go to Utah Beach. Drive through the 101st Airborne drops zones. We pass the Brécourt Manor captured by Company E of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment - 'A Band of Brothers'. We return to our Normandy hotel for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Day 3– Breakfast. This morning we visit the German military cemetery at La Cambe then drive to the Pointe du Hoc, This coastal gun battery was captured by the men of the U.S. 2nd Ranger Battalion. We then travel down the Vierville Draw to the 29th Infantry Division sector of Omaha Beach. After a walk on the beach we drive east on the coast road then up the "Les Moulins" Draw to the U.S. Military Cemetery at St. Laurent sur Mer where we pay our personal respects with a wreath laying ceremony to those who gave their lives for our freedom. See the only German coastal gun battery still sporting three of its four guns. Lunch is on your own. The Afternoon at leisure to visit the medieval city of Bayeux with it’s ancient cathedral. You have the option to see the famous Bayeux Tapestry, completed between 1070 and 1080, depicting another famous invasion in 1066 or the 1944 Normandy Museum. Dinner and overnight in our Normandy hotel.
Day 4 – Breakfast. Today we take the road to St Lo which was to form General Bradley's start line for Operation Cobra. We hear how the Americans broke the German defence in the Bocage. We follow the 'breakout route - how General Patton's amored columns raced to Avranches'. See one of the most impressive sights: Mont Saint-Michel, the 14th century abbey, perched on its rocky pinnacle beside the sea. It is one of the architectural marvels of the world. Option to climb to the top and visit the Abbey before our return to our hotel
Day 5 – After breakfast we visit Arromanches and see the remnants of one of the two artificial harbors erected by the Allies after D-Day. Drive along the British Beaches GOLD, JUNO and SWORD. Visit the British 6th Airborne zone of operations to see the "Pegasus Bridge” and the British Airborne cemetery in nearby Ranville. See the shell damaged church. We visit the new Pegasus Museum. We then move to the Gondree Café (first liberated building) and meet Arlette Gondree who was four at the time of the liberation. Continue our tour to Brussels and overnight in the Belgian capitol.
Day 6– We drive to the U.S. Military Cemetery in Hamm, Luxembourg and listen to a unique introduction to the Battle of the Bulge by the late Charles B. Macdonald. We will hold a wreath laying ceremony and pause to pay our respects to the fallen, including the late General George S. Patton Jr. then move north to the Luxembourg National Military History Museum in Diekirch. Dinner and overnight in Bastogne.
Day 7 – This morning we head east to Dasburg on the Our River and the central of three bridging sites across the Our in the Fifth Panzer Army sector. We follow the 2nd Panzer Division's axis of advance west via Marnach to Clervaux pausing to discuss the defense of these towns by the 110th Regiment of the 28th Infantry Division. We continue towards Bastogne through Antoniushof, Fe'itsch, Longvilly, Magaret and Neffe before visiting the Mardasson monument and the Bastogne Historical Center. This afternoon, we visit important sites around Bastogne including Noville, Foy, the Bois Jaques (made famous in "Band of Brothers") Hemroulle, Marvie. Overnight in Bastogne.
Day 8– This morning, we drive via the Schnee Eifel to the Losheim Gap where we begin our visit of the North Shoulder. We take in part of the much vaunted "Siegfried Line" or "Westwall". We visit Lanzerath, Losheimergraben, Buchholz and Krinkelt - Rocherath before heading for the Elsenborn Ridge. Dinner and overnight.
Day 9– Today we visit areas of the Hurtgen forest conflict. This includes the villages of Hurtgen and Kleinhau, assigned to the 8th Infantry Division in their struggle to control the Brandenberg-Bergstein ridge and secure a route through the Brandenberger Wald. We then follow the fateful objective of the 9th Division and then the 28th Division of Germeter, Vossenack, Kommerscheidt and the town of Schmidt, which was to change hands several times during the intense battle. This includes the infamous Kall Trail, a simple cart track that became the only main supply route to the divisions. Dinner and overnight.
Day 10 – Today, we follow the attack route of "Kampfgruppe Peiper" spearhead of the German attack. En route we take in Bűllingen, Mőderscheid and listen to a survivor's account of the infamous "Malmedy Massacre”. We continue though Ligneuville and Vaux Richard to Stavelot then Trois Ponts scene of a valiant stand by U.S. Engineer troops in their attempts to stop Peiper. We visit the "December 1944" Museum in La Gleize with it's Tiger Tank.. Tour ends late afternoon in Brussels.
